Children’s Dance Classes
Experience the joy of dance with our diverse range of classes.
Parent & Twinkle
A 45 minute session class designed to introduce students to movement. This program is for the youngest students (1.5 – 3 years old) and a parent/guardian or adult family member. Focus concentrates on rhythm, running, kicking, and jumping. This class will conclude with an in-house recital.
Twinkle Tots Pre-Ballet
A 45-minute Fairytale Princess/Knight Ballet class designed to introduce students to a love of dance. (2 – 4 years old) Focus concentrates on rhythm, body position, counting, creative movement, and song and dance. Every student is encouraged to be expressive, creative, and even silly, while in this safe, structured, fun environment.
Twinkle Stars Ballet/Tap Combo Class
Offered to all students 4 – 5 years of age. This one hour class is a combination of basic Ballet, Tap, and Movement exercises. We offer convenient weekday and Saturday classes to fit your schedule. This class develops rhythm, creative ability, motor skills, and coordination as well as an introduction to basic dance technique. Students remain at this level until evaluated to advance to the Prep class. Students are invited to participate in the annual “RSPAS Recital” (see calendar for details)
Acro Dance
Acro dance is a dance style that combines classical dance techniques with acrobatic elements. It’s also known as acrobatic dance or gymnastic dance, but dancers and professionals usually call it acro
Little Stars Ballet/Tap/Jazz Combo Class
This class is designed specifically for students that are in Kindergarten or new to dance. This program provides students a solid foundation of Ballet technique and explores the expressive styles of Tap and Jazz dance.
Ballet
Level I: 6-8
Level II: 9-11
Level III: 12+
Offered to students in first grade and up. Because Ballet is the base and most important building block of all great dancers, we encourage all of our students to study this “foundation discipline of all dance”. In addition to the Vaganova syllabus, these classes develop poise, grace and proper body carriage. Ballet classes are designed to strengthen each dancer’s body and mind and are taken for at least 2 hours each week. Ballet classes stress body placement, flexibility and fluidity, which allows your dancer to reach a level of artistry unmatched by other styles of dance. This style is recommended for dancers who are seriously motivated to train.
Hip Hop
Classes are fast paced, energetic and jam packed with fun! They are offered to students 6 years of age and older. This class focuses on coordination, balance, body control, and rhythm. Explore the various styles of hip-hop, including the latest b-boy/b-girl skills, popping, locking, tutting, and many more. Hip-hop students will learn how to freestyle and express themselves, something very important in the dance industry. The newest moves will keep you rocking all day long!
Jazz
Beginners through the Advanced levels are offered and taken for 2 hours each week. All styles of Jazz are explored, from Classical, Contemporary, Lyrical, Musical Theatre, and Broadway. These classes develop body strength, flexibility and coordination. Jazz as an art form has evolved over time. However, turns, leaps, and kicks will always remain the core of our work. With a solid warm up at the beginning of each class, our Jazz program strives to improve not only the dancers’ skills, but also the strength and flexibility behind the movements. Endless combinations and across the floor building blocks will keep the dancers on their toes. Corequisite – Students must take Ballet class in conjunction with any Jazz class.
Modern/Contemporary
This class is offered to those students who have reached the Intermediate level of Ballet training. Modern is a style of theatrical dance that encourages dancers to use their emotions, moods, and inner feelings, which allows students to take their movement to new levels and is taken for 2 hours each week. Corequisite – Students must take Ballet class in conjunction with any Modern class.
Musical Theatre
Offered to all students ages 5 and older. A theater and jazz-based class filled with Broadway style dancing, acting, and singing. Classes incorporate the style of dance one would typically see on a Broadway stage and taken for 2 hours each week. This class emphasizes learning performance skills such as connecting with the audience and facial expressions. Students will participate in a live musical production at the end of each session and perform a piece in the Spring Dance Recital. See calendar for session details. Students in the Production Company who are not in the Dance Company are encouraged to take a Jazz and Tap class.
Pointe
Pointe classes are available for more advanced students ages 11 and up. This program requires audition and faculty recommendation. This strenuous discipline is introduced at an Intermediate Ballet level and taken for 1 hour each week. Students work at the barre to obtain proper alignment and strengthen their arches, ankles, and leg muscles necessary for Pointe work. Prerequisite – Students must take the Ballet class that is before the Pointe class along with an additional Ballet class.
Pom Dance
Pom dance is an energetic and dynamic style of dance that places emphasis on precise and synchronised arm movements, formations, jumps, and skills. This style of dance is usually seen performed on Dance Teams and Cheerleaders.
Tap
Offered to students in first grade and up. For anyone who has been excited by the syncopated rhythms of a tap dancer’s feet, we have a class for you. Tap builds concentration, coordination, rhythm, speed, and dexterity that offers a broad knowledge of the classical style as well as contemporary and rhythm tap technique. This is an important class to help dancers improve in all disciplines.
Technique
By audition only, these classes are designed for the student interested in competing. Students will focus on learning choreography and performance techniques in preparation for dance competitions and other non-recital performances. All students in the performance company must take technique for 2 hours each week.
Tumbling
Designed for dance and cheer students who are interested in learning basic floor type Gymnastic skills. This class will help students to develop strength, endurance and flexibility. This program is offered to students who are 6 years of age or older. All skill levels are welcome. From forward rolls to back tucks, instruction provided on proper warm up techniques, drills, and conditioning exercises with hands on spotting.
